Paint with Jessie as she shows you her process of loose exploration directly on the canvas. Bring your own source material or work from one(s) that Jessie shares. The zooms are interactive, and your questions will be welcome.

We meet twice a month over zoom. The first zoom is dedicated to painting. I demonstrate my painting process, and artists are welcome to paint along, or paint something different. Everyone has the opportunity to share and ask questions.
The second zoom of the month is our “casual” day. It starts with answering questions students have emailed me, any critiques requested, and then live questions and a short slide show. Then we paint with the remaining time.
It’s a small group, so everyone has the opportunity to share and ask questions.

Demonstrations will be in oil paints. This workshop is most beneficial to strong beginners or intermediate artists, but artists of any level and painting medium are welcome. Recordings will be available.

Here’s the April Schedule. Each month will be a similar schedule, but different topics.

Fri, Apr 14, 3 hour landscape paint-together from a source photo. I’ll walk you through how to crop in and simplify the landscape. You’re welcome to paint from your own source photo or follow along with my painting. You can ask questions or request feedback as we paint.

Fri, Apr 28, 3 hour casual Q&A time. Bring your questions, or bring work to share. If time allows, after the Q&A we’ll paint a small study.

Extras
Between zooms you can email Jessie with painting questions, for critiques, or for technique demos. Or email to get encouragement in your painting journey.

There is optional / suggested homework.
Guarantee – If for any reason you don’t feel like the workshop is right for you, contact me within 2 weeks of enrolling to request a refund. That’s enough time to join a zoom session.
Workshop Rules – This is a great supportive group of artists. Let’s keep it that way! Be kind. Follow normal classroom ediquite, which includes: don’t give unsolicited criticism, avoid topics like politics, don’t use lude, sexist or racist language. If a new student doesn’t follow this normal ediquite, they will be banned from the zooms or removed from the workshop, as I see appropriate. Nothing like that has happened so far, and I hope it never does!

FAQ

Q: What if I have questions or want feedback on my work? Will I get individual attention?

A: Yes, you’ll get lots of individual attention. You can ask questions during the weekly zooms, or email me.

Q: Can I enroll my kid in the workshop?

A: This is designed for adult artists. Teens with adult-level maturity would be welcome. For younger kids, sorry, this isn’t the right workshop.

About the Instructor

Hi, I’m Jessie. I love to help artists become more confident painters in my online workshops.

I am a professional artist based in South Dakota, an exhibiting member of Oil Painters of America, an award-winning member of the American Impressionist Society, a Signature Member of Artists of the Black Hills, and a Southwest Art Magazine “Artist to Watch”.

My work focuses on capturing the invisible connection between animals in a group, between animals and the land, and between people – in an unsentimental, painterly style filled with visible brush strokes and palette knife marks. The result is artwork which is often described as both “painterly” and “comforting.”

I am passionate about color, composition, brush and palette knife marks, and making beautiful art.

I commissioned Jessie to surprise my wife with a 45 year anniversary painting of a pair of horses pulling together. Jessie took the concept and captured everything I hoped for in the painting and more. My wife loved it and the painting hangs above our fireplace. …

Beautiful work, lovely portraits as well as landscapes. I am a satisfied collector and treasure the painting of hers I own.

An incredible artist! If you have the chance, commission her for some work. Brilliant artist.
