Jessie’s Mixing Clean Colors lesson : HARMONY!

Learn to mix harmonious colors that you love.

Welcome! Why am I giving away this great color mixing lesson? I’m hoping you will love my teaching style and want to join my painting class. But no pressure – Even if that’s not for you, I hope you get a lot out of this lesson!

I think you’ll see a brand new and much easier way to think about color mixing. Happy painting!

LESSON – watch time 37 minutes

Limiting your palette is the fastest, easiest way to get harmony in your paintings. It works immediately!

As an added bonus, using a limited palette before adding in more colors will help you to understand color mixing on a deeper level.

Introduction, talk about the color wheel as it applies to this palette, tips. Demo starts at 17:30.

It’s important to know that there are more than one way to limit a palette. But the easiest way is to use the three colors Ultramarine Blue, Alizarin or Quinacridone, and Cadmium Yellow Light Hue – plus Titanium White. Substitutions welcome.

Try out a couple small (5×7 inches or that range) paintings using a limited palette of 3 colors plus white (Ideally Ultramarine Blue, Alizarin or Quinacridone, Cadmium Yellow Light Hue, and Titanium White, or similar colors). Really see what the benefits and limitations of this palette are. If you feel like you need another color on your palette, think about what limitation, or gap in your color range, the new color is filling.

Here’s the source photo I used in the demo: Fruit Orange Clementine Citrus
